ABOUT YOUR CHC

Accessibility

Accessibility

Gateway CHC is committed to providing programs and services that are accessible to all clients and respect and promote the dignity and independence of people with disabilities.

We want everyone, regardless of ability, to have equal access to our programs and services, and to the same services, in the same place, and in a similar way.

Each member of our staff receives accessibility training soon after they are hired and is committed to our accessibility goals.

Accessibility

We ask because we care

Clients registering for primary care, dental care, and/or programs are asked to identify whether they have a disability. Staff will incorporate the identified disability into the client’s plan of care with appropriate resources to support the client. For example, the plan may involve the Canadian Hearing Society for interpreter services or CNIB for rehabilitation, support, and assistive technologies.

You can expect the following from Gateway CHC staff:

  • We speak clearly and simply, in person and on the phone.
  • We communicate with people with disabilities in ways that take their disability into account and consult with the client to determine a communications plan that works for them.
  • Our staff know how to use the assistive devices on our premises, including electronic exam bed, weigh scale, OTN clinical cart devices, wheelchairs and crutches.
  • Various staff are trained on assistive communication services (e.g., TTY) and each will familiarize themselves with unique assistive devices utilized by their client.
  • A staff person may also provide assistance in completing forms.

Feedback Process

Our goal is to meet every client’s expectation. We welcome and appreciate your comments on how well these expectations are being met. Please Contact Us to let us know how we’re doing. All feedback will be shared with the CEO.

See our Accessibility Report

Each year, we produce an accessibility report for the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services outlining our compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). We are also required to make this information available to the public. You can read our latest Compliance Report at the link below.
