Nutrition Counseling

 

The Nutritionist is available to provide nutritional assessment and education for community members who have questions or concerns about nutrition. You do not need to be a client of the centre nor do you need a doctor’s referral to access this service. The Nutritionist provides nutrition counseling on a wide variety of topics including general healthy eating, weight management, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and infant/child nutrition.

 

To book your appointment with the Nutritionist please contact reception at 613-478-1211. To get the most out of your visit to the Nutritionist, please bring a record of everything you have eaten for at least three days prior to your appointment.

  

Diabetes Education

 

Do you or someone in your family have Diabetes?

 

The Gateway Community Health Centre offers their Passport to Diabetes Program on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  Topics covered include healthy eating, physical activity, medications, stress management and prevention of diabetes complications. Whether you have just been diagnosed with diabetes or if you have had it for years, we encourage everyone to attend. Group education classes and individual counseling are available in Tweed.  This program is open to all people living in Central Hastings. The program runs for 8 weeks and the cost is FREE! “Stretching Your Food Dollars” Food Skills Workshops

“Stretching Your Food Dollars” is a fun and informative 4-week workshop designed to build food, nutrition, and budgeting skills with anyone interested in eating healthier and saving money. Each week, community members will gather in a fun and supportive environment to prepare and enjoy a nutritious, inexpensive meal with the Nutritionist, learn skills and ideas that will help them buy and prepare their own exciting and healthy meals on a budget.

 “Stretching Your Food Dollars” workshops are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about healthy eating on a tight budget, having fun in the kitchen and meeting people in their community. All ages are welcome!

Workshops are offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring:

Tweed – Wednesdays (5:00-8:00pm at St. John’s United Church)

Marmora – Thursdays (5:00-8:00pm at Marmora Community Centre)

Workshop participants will be charged a nominal fee of $3.00 a week.

Community Education

 

The Gateway Community Health Centre Nutritionist is available for community presentations on a variety of topics including diabetes, healthy eating, food safety, infant nutrition, making baby food etc.  Non-profit groups, women’s groups, youth groups, service clubs, schools and other non-profit groups can contact the Nutritionist at 613-478-1211 if they are interested in a nutrition presentation.
